Items to Watch for the Upcoming Board of Governors’ Meeting

Strategic Planning Committee: The Board will consider approval of the 2022 System Accountability Plan and the university proposals for receiving Linking Industry to Nursing Education (LINE) funds.  They will hear an overview of the Prepping Institutions, Programs, Employers, and Learners through Incentives for Nursing Education (PIPELINE) spending plans.  Additionally, the Board will consider approval of UCF, UWF, and FAMU’s 2022-2027 Strategic Plans. 

Task Force on Academic and Workforce Alignment:  The Task Force will hear from deans at the University of West Florida, the University of North Florida, and the University of Central Florida regarding their relationships with employers and the activities of industry advisory councils.

Academic and Student Affairs Committee: The Board will hear an overview of the state universities’ progress towards implementing the recommendations from the Civil Discourse Report approved in January 2022.

Academic and Research Excellence: The Board will hear an update on how HiPerGator has supported research endeavors throughout the System.  Additionally, Florida State University and Florida International University will lead a discussion on how faculty at their institutions are using HiPerGator in the classroom and to conduct research.

Facilities Committee: The Board will consider approving the 2023-2024 State University System Fixed Capital Outlay Legislative Budget Request, including the Preliminary Selection Group of Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) eligible projects.

Audit and Compliance Committee:  The Board will hear a panelist discussion by three university chief audit executives.  They will discuss their roles, responsibilities, and experiences establishing themselves as trusted advisors for their respective university leadership and board of trustees.  The Board will hear an update regarding Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s steps in addressing recent concerns related to its athletics department and student housing matters.

Innovation and Online Committee: The Board will hear presentations on professional development for faculty who teach online courses and academic integrity in online education.  The Board will consider approval of a legislative budget request for the Florida Postsecondary Academic Library Network.

Budget and Finance Committee: The Board will consider approving the Student Success Plans for Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida Polytechnic University, and New College of Florida.  The Board will consider approval of the 2023-2024 operating Legislative Budget Request for the State University System.  Additionally, the Board will review the performance-based funding model for potential enhancements.

Full Board: The Board will recognize the service of Chancellor Marshall M. Criser, III.  The Board will consider approval of the Chancellor Search Committee’s recommendation for the new chancellor.  Finally, the Board will hear an update on the presidential searches for Florida Atlantic University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida International University, and the University of Florida.
