The Office of Public Affairs consists of Communications, External Relations, and Government Relations.
Communications is the first stop for the media.
The director works to promote the work of the Board of Governors and the State University System by answering questions and obtaining data and other material, as requested.
When reporters and other stakeholders need access to the Chancellor and other senior staff, they may contact the communications office to make arrangements. In addition, the office works to identify newsworthy stories, prepare press releases, and ensure that the State University System’s complex policy issues are conveyed with clarity and consistency. External Relations works to build relationships and motivate support and investment in the future of Florida’s 12 public universities.
The external relations staff provides leadership for advancing the work and objectives of the Board of Governors and the State University System of Florida.
Florida’s public universities are a catalyst for economic development and have an immense impact on the well-being of all Floridians. Through partnerships, external relations staff seek to involve and educate diverse individuals and groups including: students; policy makers; government leaders; higher education organizations; as well as, corporations and businesses.
Government Relations staff serve as a liaison to both internal and external interests in areas including strategic planning, policy research and guidance, and effectively communicating positions of the Board.
The government relations team works to obtain funding as well as to pass substantive legislation in support of the teaching, research, and service missions of Florida’s public universities.
The office coordinates development and implementation of strategies that foster mutually supportive, ongoing relationships with elected officials, executive branch leaders, and other education entities.
Government Relations also advances the understanding of and support for the State University System by keeping key governmental officials and other stakeholders aware of the importance of the State University System to the well-being of all Floridians.
