Items to Watch for the Upcoming Board of Governors’ Meeting

Academic and Research Excellence Committee: The Board will hear an update on the State University System implementation on House Bill 7017 related to foreign influence. The Board will hear an update on the World Class Faculty and Scholars Program and the Professional Graduate Degree Excellence Program.

Strategic Planning Committee:  The Board will hear an update on nursing education in the State University System. The Board will receive a live demonstration of the MyFloridaFuture student career planning tool. The Board will also hear an update on FAMU’s nursing and law exam pass rates. Finally, the Board will receive the Civil Discourse Initiative report. 

Audit and Compliance Committee: The Board will hear a compliance update on the State University System implementation on House Bill 7017 related to foreign influence. The Board will hear an update on the status of the progress to date regarding the Crowe, LLP engagement to perform a review of Financial Internal Controls for University Direct Support Organizations.

Academic and Student Affairs Committee:  The Board will hear an update on limited access programs in the State University System, along with a plan on reaffirmation for limited access programs. The Board will consider approval of the termination of the Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Humanities, by Florida State University, and the Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science, by the University of South Florida. Additionally, the Board will hear the annual update on the System-wide hazing prevention efforts, including best practices, the hazing prevention summit, the number of individuals who completed the training program with AliveTek, as well as the impact of the hazing prevention training.

Task Force on Academic and Workforce Alignment: The Board will consider approval of the Task Force on Academic and Workforce Alignment’s Recommendations and Next Steps. Additionally, the Task Force will have a discussion with Mr. Bob Ward, President and CEO of the Florida Council of 100, and Mr. Mark Wilson, President and CEO of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

Innovation and Online Committee: The Board will receive the report on Preparing for a Post-Pandemic World in the State University System. The Board will also consider updates to the SUS 2025 Strategic Plan for Online Education.

Full Board:  Chair Brian Lamb will give the State of the System address. The Board will recognize the achievements of outgoing chair, Sydney Kitson. The Board will hear an update on the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition. Finally, the Board will hear updates on the presidential searches for the University of Florida, the University of North Florida, and the University of South Florida.

The Board of Governors’ meeting will be held at Florida State University, with committee meetings scheduled to begin January 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.  The full Board meeting is scheduled to begin on January 26, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. Meeting times are subject to change.
