Board of Governors’ Meeting Highlights

TALLAHASSEE — The Board of Governors held a meeting via conference call today. 

During the meeting, the Board approved the Work Plan for the Academic and Workforce Alignment Task Force.   The primary objectives of the Task Force are to identify 1) the key industries important to Florida’s future, 2) the workforce needed to attract and retain businesses in those industries, and 3) the ways in which the State University System of Florida can contribute to attracting the desired industries and to creating Florida’s future workforce.

“Now more than ever, we have a responsibility and an opportunity to work jointly with the business community to invigorate Florida’s economy, by providing well-prepared graduates to enter the workforce where demand is highest,” said Syd Kitson, chair of the Board of Governors. “It is imperative that the State University System be ready to assist the state and the nation to recover from this crisis, and the work of this Task Force is key.”

Other meeting highlights include:

  • The Board approved the appointment of Dr. Alexander Cartwright as the University of Central Florida’s next president.  Dr. Cartwright has been the chancellor of the University of Missouri since 2017.
  • The Board approved the reappointments of Nicole Washington to the board of trustees at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and Donna Hrinak to the board of trustees at Florida International University.
