TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Today, the State University System of Florida proudly recognizes Friday, September 4, 2026, as College Colors Day. National College Colors Day is celebrated each year at the start of college football season, and the State University System of Florida (System) encourages students, alumni, faculty, staff, and fans to celebrate all 12 institutions and commemorate Florida’s ranking as the #1 state for higher education in the country by wearing their university’s colors.
“College Colors Day is back, giving us a chance to celebrate the energy of a new academic year and another exciting season of campus traditions,” said Board of Governors Chair Alan Levine. “Whether your connection to our System is as a student, alumnus, faculty member, or fan, wearing your university’s colors is a great way to commemorate the history, momentum, and collective achievements of Florida’s public universities.”
“College Colors Day highlights the pride and shared purpose that unite Florida’s public universities,” said System Chancellor Ray Rodrigues. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate how our institutions work collectively to expand opportunity, drive innovation, and serve students and communities statewide. We encourage Floridians to wear their college colors to celebrate the role our universities play in advancing student success and shaping Florida’s future.”
U.S. News & World Report has ranked Florida #1 in higher education for 10 consecutive years. The State University System of Florida continues to raise the bar for higher education.
- The System has the lowest in-state four-year tuition rates in the nation and has not raised in-state tuition for its 12 public universities since 2013.
- 80% of the System’s in-state undergraduate students are enrolled without taking a federal student loan.
- Nearly 75% of the System’s baccalaureate graduates were continuing their education or employed within one year after graduation, with a median salary of $52,600.
