ICYMI: Florida Lottery Hosts Big Bend Bright Futures Mega Event at Tallahassee State College

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – This weekend, the Florida Lottery hosted its first-ever Florida Bright Futures Mega Event at the Fine and Performing Arts Center on the campus of Tallahassee State College. The event brought together middle and high school students and their families from across the Big Bend region to learn about the Bright Futures Scholarship Program and gain essential resources for planning their post-secondary education.

“This event was about expanding opportunity and making sure every student has the information they need to plan for their future,” said Acting Secretary Reginald D. Dixon. “We were proud to connect directly with students and families and support them as they take their next steps toward higher education, including colleges, universities, and technical schools.”

More than 450 attendees registered to receive guidance on eligibility requirements, application deadlines, and college preparation tips, while parents had the opportunity to ask questions and learn how to support their students throughout the scholarship process and plan for post-secondary success.

“We’re pleased to welcome students and families to Tallahassee State College for this Bright Futures Scholarship Information Event in partnership with the Florida Lottery,” said Tallahassee State College President Jim Murdaugh. “The earlier students understand the requirements and deadlines, the more confident they can be in planning for college. We’re proud to provide a place for families to get accurate information, ask questions, and take meaningful steps toward funding their future.”

The Florida Bright Futures Initiative was created to help students achieve their post-secondary education goals by providing access to scholarship information, resources, and guidance throughout the Bright Futures application process. Over the past several years, the Florida Lottery has visited schools across the state to meet students where they are, answer questions, and offer direct, accessible support. Events like this allow the Florida Lottery to reach broader audiences at once, ensuring that more students understand the process, requirements, and best practices for applying to Bright Futures.

“Florida leads the nation in higher education because we prioritize affordability and accessibility,” said State University System of Florida Chancellor Ray Rodrigues. “The State University System is proud to partner with the Florida Lottery to inform students about the Bright Futures Scholarship and programs like the Targeted 2+2 Pathway, which can support them in reaching their higher education goals at a state college or university, without the burden of student loans.”

The Florida Lottery continues to invest in outreach and engagement efforts that support students, families, and communities across the state, ensuring that educational opportunity is accessible to all and helping students take confident steps toward higher education.

Colleges and universities interested in hosting a Florida Bright Futures event are encouraged to email [email protected] to learn more about hosting this initiative in their area.
