The manner of collection of the racial/ethnic information is left
to the discretion of the institution provided that the system
which is established results in reasonably accurate data, which
may be replicated by others when the same documented system is
utilized. An employer may acquire the racial/ethnic information
necessary for this section either by visual survey of the work
force or from post-employment records.
For the Student Data Course File:
Correspondence students (01267=O) will not be included in
Critical/Tolerance editing of the value "X".
For the Hours to Degree File, this element will be program
generated using the Student Data Course File.
If race and ethnicity have been reported using the elements which
are part of group item Race and Ethnicity (01498) then the value
'N' will be generated here to indicate that racial/ethnic
information has been reported in 01498 on the Student Data Course
File and the Admissions File.
