Retention Reporting
DEFINITION:
Indicates if the student was enrolled (had a Student Data Course
File record) in the Retention Year (Fall/Spring/Summer) at either
the Cohort institution or at any other SUS institution.
CODING INSTRUCTIONS:
This element is program generated by the Retention Build
Process.
ALGORITHM:
Students are tracked by year after entering a retention
cohort. Soon after the Summer Final Student Data Course Master
File for a year is created, the Fall/Spring/Summer SDCF
records are matched to the previous Retention Demographic
Files (earliest year is 1991) based on Reporing Institution
and Person Identification Number.
If found, then the appropriate occurrence of the indicator
is set to Y for the year. Otherwise, the value is set to N.
A blank value indicates that the year represented by the
particular occurrence of the indicator is either in the future
or the student has already earned a bachelor's degree or higher
from the reporting institution.
TABLE VALUES:
Y - Student was enrolled in the Tracking Year
N - Student was not enrolled in the Tracking Year
S - Student was enrolled at another SUS Institution
during the Trackig Year
