With university system Chancellor Frank Brogan ready to leave for a job in Pennsylvania, the Florida Board of Governors next week is expected to name Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Jan Ignash as an interim replacement.
Board of Governors Chairman Dean Colson said Thursday he will recommend Ignash during a Sept. 12 meeting. Also, Colson plans after the meeting to appoint a committee that will oversee what could be a months-long search process to fill the chancellor's job.
Ignash has worked for the board since 2012, after serving as chief academic officer for Washington state's Higher Education Coordinating Board. She also has held positions at the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the University of South Florida.
"We are fortunate to have a seasoned academic leader on our team to fill in as interim chancellor while we conduct a national search,'' Colson said in a prepared statement.
Brogan, who has held the top staff position in the university system for four years, was chosen last month for a similar position with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. A former lieutenant governor, university president and education commissioner, Brogan has been a high-profile player in Tallahassee for much of the past two decades.
His last day as chancellor is Sept. 30, and Ignash would take over the interim role the following day.
A news release about the changes did not detail how long it might take to find a new chancellor. But the committee that Colson will appoint is expected to make recommendations in November about the search process, including a timeline.
