New College of Florida has hired a Stetson University manager as its new general counsel.
The appointment of Mark St. Louis — an attorney with experience in higher education, human resources and management — was effective July 1.
St. Louis was the manager of Stetson university's Center for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy. He also served as the center's coordinator while he pursued his law degree.
St. Louis previously served as human resources coordinator at St. Petersburg College from 2008 to 2009.
“Mark has broad experience across the range of legal issues in higher education,” said John Martin, New College's vice president for finance and administration.
From 2001 to 2008, St. Louis served as a human resources specialist with the Michigan Army National Guard while completing his undergraduate studies.
He was deployed to Kuwait from 2006 to 2007 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also an intern with the emergency management division of the Michigan State Police in 2004.
St. Louis received his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 2005, his master's degree in business administration from Baker College in 2008 and his law degree from Stetson in 2012.
He was admitted to the Florida Bar in October 2012.
