The proposed FAMU Way Extension project is still in the works despite having to reroute the western segment route, a deviation from the originally approved route plan.
City commissioners will get an update tonight on the $28.7 million capital project that officials promise will be “the most beautiful corridor in Tallahassee.” The project is split into two phases. Phase one spans from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Pinellas Street and phase two stretches from Pinellas to Lake Bradford Road.
City reports say the design portion for Phase 1 is close to completion and staffers expect to soon begin the permitting stage. The western slice of the first approved route had to be changed after CSX declined to permit an at grade crossing.
