Florida State University System Chancellor Frank Brogan recommended today that he work directly with the leaders at Florida A&M University as they address ongoing issues of institutional control.
Brogan, speaking to the Board of Governors Audit Committee and FAMU interim president Larry Robinson, made his recommendation after SUS Inspector General Derry Harper reviewed his Dec. 28 preliminary report on hazing and the lack of institutional controls at FAMU.
Harper had concluded in a detailed, 32-page report that FAMU “did not have in place an anti-hazing program because of a lack of institutional and internal controls.”
FAMU has until Jan. 23 to respond to Harper’s report, which was the result of a 13-month investigation covering 2007 to 2011. Following the university’s response, Harper will issue a final report.
