Three of the five appointees announced Thursday to the Board of Governors of the State University System have South Florida ties. All are prominent in the business community.
Gov. Rick Scott’s appointees include Harry “Wayne” Huizenga Jr., Wendy S. Link and Alan M. Levine.
Huizenga, 51, of Delray Beach, is currently the president of Rybovich Boat Co. and Huizenga Holdings Inc. He’s the son of billionaire Fort Lauderdale businessman H. Wayne Huizenga.
Levine, 45, who currently lives in Naples, is the senior vice president and Florida president of Hospital Management Services of Florida Inc. He’s a former health secretary for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and a former CEO of the North Broward Hospital District.
Levine was most recently in the news appearing on the TV show ’60 Minutes’ on behalf of his current employer.
Link, 48, of Palm Beach Gardens, is an attorney and managing partner with Ackerman, Link & Sartory. He’s also chairwoman of Florida Healthy Kids Corp. and is on the board of Palm Beach State College, formerly known as Palm Beach Community College.
Scott also appointed Ned C. Lautenbach and Edward A. Morton of Naples. Thursday’s appointments to the 15-member board that oversees higher education policy in the state are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
