MEDIA ADVISORY: Items to watch for the upcoming Board of Governors' meeting
State of the System Address: Board of Governors’ Chair Tom Kuntz will deliver the annual State of the System Address, updating stakeholders on the Board’s progress over the past year and outlining his vision for the year ahead. Priorities include aligning degrees with jobs, raising the State University System’s research profile, improving access and affordability through enhanced 2+2 programs, and increased resources for security and mental health. Workshop on 2+2 Articulation: Led by Board Member Alan Levine, the Board’s Select Committee on 2+2 Articulation will meet on Wednesday to discuss how to further strengthen Florida’s 2+2 program for students who are transferring from state colleges to universities. Among other topics, the Committee will discuss how to streamline the admissions processes between colleges and universities and ensure that credits transfer smoothly. Mental Health: The Board will hear a presentation on the impact of student counseling services, including improved mental and behavioral health as well as better academic performance. Committee: Academic and Student Affairs
University Projects: With a focus on maintenance and repair, the Board will consider for final approval the list of facilities projects to be included in its 2017 Legislative Budget Request. Committee: Facilities
Strategic Planning: The Board’s Strategic Planning system is nationally renowned, using data to help steer higher education to produce outcomes that align with the state’s highest needs. Vice Chancellor Jan Ignash will give an overview of the regular annual activities associated with the Strategic Planning Committee as well as review special initiatives which the Committee has conducted over the past several years. T. Rowe Price: John Townsend, vice president of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc., and T. Rowe Price Services, Inc., will present to the Board about a number of strategic partnerships between his company and USF. The discussion is a part of the Think Florida: A Higher Degree for Business campaign, designed to strengthen ties between the State University System and the business community. Full Board Meeting.
The Board of Governors’ meeting will be held at Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland, with committee meetings scheduled to begin January 25 at 10:15 a.m. The full Board meeting is scheduled to begin on January 26 at 10:45 a.m. Meeting times are subject to change.
