PRESS RELEASE: Items to watch for the upcoming Board of Governors’ meeting
Best practices in 2+2: The Board will examine best practices in 2+2 articulation, with presentations from the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida, both of which have robust programs that encourage smooth transitions for students and timely degree completion. Committee: Select Committee on 2+2 Articulation
Legislative budget requests: The Board will consider legislative budget requests for the State University System, including funding for university performance, student safety, and mental health counselors. Committees: Academic and Student Affairs, Facilities, Task Force on University Research, Budget and Finance
Work Plan summary: The Board will hear a summary of the 2016 University Work Plans approved in June, including trends on key performance indicators and the State University System’s progress toward its 2025 Strategic Plan Goals. Committee: Strategic Planning
Preeminence: The Board will consider for approval UCF’s five-year plan for the Emerging Preeminent State Research Universities Program created by the 2016 Legislature. Florida State University and the University of Florida will also present their plans to reach Top 25 and Top 10 national rankings, respectively. Committee: Strategic Planning
Research metrics: The Board will consider for approval a proposed dashboard of metrics that quantify research activity and progress in the categories of “Research, Contracts and Grants,” “Innovation,” “People” and “ROI.” Task Force on University Research
Think Florida: As part of its Think Florida: A Higher Degree for Business campaign, the Board of Governors will hear from John Townsend, Vice President of T. Rowe Price Services, a global investment firm with a strong partnership with University of South Florida. Mr. Townsend is the chair of the Executive Advisory Council for the USF Muma College of Business and is active in its Corporate Mentorship Program. Among other partnerships, the firm sponsors a scholarship that supports 6-8 business students per year and places USF interns in T. Rowe Price’s divisions both locally and across the country.
