MEDIA ADVISORY: Five items to watch for the upcoming Board of Governors’ meeting
Highlights include the unveiling of the State University System’s 2013-2014 Accountability Report and a presentation by Chancellor Marshall Criser III on university affordability.
January 21
Campus Safety: Ms. Vikki Shirley, the Board’s general counsel, will provide an update from the State University System Title IX Workshop conducted Nov. 18, 2014. Academic and Student Affairs Committee, 1:30 p.m.
Workforce Response: Dr. Chris Mullin will present an update on four projects funded with $15 million in grants, known as TEAm Grants, allocated by the Governor and Legislature to close gaps in the high-demand occupations employers seek to fill in Florida. Performance Funding: Florida Atlantic University, New College of Florida and the University of West Florida will update the Board of Governors on steps they have taken to raise graduation and retention rates, post-graduation success, and other metrics in the Board of Governors’ performance funding model. Budget Committee: 9:15 a.m.
Accountability Report: Dr. Jan Ignash will unveil the Board of Governors’ 2013-2014 Accountability Report, which tracks university progress toward the State University System’s 2025 Strategic Plan goals. Among the findings: More students are pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and the State University System’s 550 institutes and centers conducting research return an average of $5.94 to the state for every taxpayer dollar invested. University Affordability: Chancellor Marshall Criser III will continue the discussion on university affordability, unveiling new data on tuition, state appropriations, financial aid and the “net cost to students” of attending a university in Florida. Strategic Planning Committee: 10:45 a.m.
