PRESS RELEASE: Board of Governors seeks applicant for UF Board of Trustees
At a time when Florida is raising the bar on higher education and reaching for a new level of accountability, the Board of Governors is seeking applicants for a spot on the University of Florida’s Board of Trustees.
This is a unique public service opportunity to shape the future of one of the country’s best public institutions. Home to nearly 50,000 students, 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes, UF has the highest graduation and retention rates in the System, along with the state’s highest endowment. It is also one of two preeminent universities in the state, as designated by the Florida Legislature, and is on the cusp of being one of the country’s top 10 public universities.
Each state university has a 13-member Board of Trustees responsible for cost-effective policy and implementing and maintaining high-quality education programs consistent with the university's mission. Trustees also work to adhere to state policy, budgeting and education standards.
“Our trustees are essential to the State University System, ensuring that our universities are efficient and provide an excellent education,” said Mori Hosseini, chair of the Board of Governors. “As a preeminent university, we fully expect that UF will be one of the country’s top 10 public universities in the next five years. The trustee to serve in this position will have a huge role in steering that ship.”
Those interested in this opportunity must complete an application with the Board of Governors' Trustee Nominating Committee by May 16, 2014 at 5 p.m. The term of service runs through Jan. 6, 2015.
