PRESS RELEASE: Marshall Criser III named finalist in State University System’s chancellor search
ORLANDO—Marshall Criser III, president of AT&T Florida with broad experience in Florida higher education, was chosen as the finalist in the search for the next chancellor of the State University System of Florida. Criser will now advance to the final round of the search process at the Board of Governors meeting next week in Miami. In its third meeting since September, the Board’s chancellor search committee made the unanimous recommendation after a day of interviews with four semi-finalists.
“I want to thank my fellow search committee members for all their hard work in the quest to find our State University System’s next leader,” said Mori Hosseini, chair of the committee and vice chair of the Board of Governors. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the quality of applicants we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing this month, and I am particularly happy with our finalist, Marshall Criser III. I look forward to bringing him to the Board of Governors for their consideration.”
“We were lucky to have a broad, talented pool of applicants from which to select our next chancellor, and I believe we are advancing the best choice for Florida at this time,” said Manoj Chopra, search committee member and faculty representative on the Board of Governors. “Marshall Criser has demonstrated a clear passion for our universities and our system, and he can provide a strong voice in Tallahassee.”
“Marshall Criser has long been an advocate for higher education in Florida,” said Tom Kuntz, vice chair of the search committee. “That experience, coupled with his constructive ideas for how to further advance the State University System toward excellence, makes him the perfect fit to be our chancellor.”
“I’ve been extremely impressed by the caliber of all our chancellor candidates, and am confident that our search committee has made a thoughtful, well-reasoned recommendation,” said Dean Colson, chairman of the Board of Governors. “I appreciate all the hard work of the committee, and I know the rest of the Board of Governors looks forward to seeing Marshall next week."
Criser has been a long-time leader in Florida higher education and just began his fourth year as the Speaker’s appointee to the Higher Education Coordinating Council, which he chairs. He is a member of the Scripps Research Institute board of trustees in California and is Vice Chair of University of Florida’s Board of Trustees. Criser was nominated by former House Representative Bill Proctor and received a letter of support from the chair of Workforce Florida.
The full Board of Governors will consider Criser’s appointment at its full Board meeting Nov. 20-21 at Florida International University.
