PRESS RELEASE: Board of Governors announces appointments to university Boards of Trustees
GAINESVILLE — The Florida Board of Governors today made seven appointments to Boards of Trustees across the State University System.
- Thomas Workman, Jr., president of Thomas Workman & Associates, Certified Public Accountants in Boca Raton, was reappointed to the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees for a term beginning January 17, 2013, and ending January 6, 2018.
- John Dudley Goodlette, former interim president of Edison State College in Fort Myers, was appointed to to the Florida Gulf Coast University Board of Trustees for a term beginning January 17, 2013, and ending January 6, 2018.
- Leslie Victor Pantin, president of Pantin/Beber Silverstein Public Relations in Miami, was appointed to the Florida State University Board of Trustees for a term beginning January 17, 2013, and ending January 6, 2018.
- George Arthur Skestos, of Longboat Key, retired founder of the Homewood Corporation, Trinity Home Builders and Franklin Bank, was appointed to the New College of Florida Board of Trustees for a term beginning January 17, 2013, and ending January 6, 2018.
- Fred D. Franklin, an attorney with Rogers Towers PA in Jacksonville, was reappointed to the University of North Florida Board of Trustees for a term beginning January 17, 2013, and ending January 6, 2018.
- Stanley I. Levy, a retired partner emeritus at Grant Thorton LLP in Tampa, was appointed to the University of South Florida Board of Trustees for a term beginning January 17, 2013, and ending January 6, 2018.
- Suzanne Lewis, of Pensacola, a retired superintendent at the National Park Service, was appointed to the University of West Florida Board of Trustees for a term beginning January 17, 2013, and ending January 6, 2018.
These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate and are required to participate in a Board of Governors new trustee orientation.
“We are fortunate to have Boards of Trustees across the state made up of well-qualified and dedicated individuals, with broad ranges of experience and expertise,” said Mori Hosseini, chair of the Board of Governors Trustee Nominating Committee. “We are proud to welcome these new members to our ranks. Their contributions to the universities will no doubt make the whole System stronger.”

Facts about the State University System of Florida and Florida Board of Governors
The State University System of Florida is a constitutional body led by the 17-member Board of Governors. The System has 12 universities and a total enrollment of more than 330,000 students, making it the second-largest public university system in the nation (some states have more than one system). The Board was created in 2003 as a result of an amendment to the Florida Constitution (Article IX, Section 7). Responsibilities include defining the distinctive mission of each institution and ensuring the System’s coordination and operation. Members include 14 who are appointed by the Governor plus a faculty member, a student representative and the Florida Commissioner of Education. The Board appoints a Chancellor who serves as the State University System’s chief executive.
