PRESS RELEASE: Board of Governors seeks applicants to Boards of Trustees
Each university in Florida has an open slot -- that means 12 opportunities to help shape the future of higher education in our state.
At a time when higher education in Florida is in the spotlight like never before, the Florida Board of Governors is seeking applicants for open spots on boards of trustees at each of the state's public universities. It represents an opportunity to help shape the future of the second largest university system in the country at a time of heightened interest from stakeholders across the state.
The universities' 13-member boards of trustees are responsible for implementing and maintaining cost-effective policy and high quality educational programs. They also work to adhere to state policy, budgeting and education standards.
There is one vacant position at each of the state's public universities: Florida A&M University, Florida Atlantic University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida International University, Florida Polytechnic University, Florida State University, New College of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of Florida, University of North Florida, University of South Florida and University of West Florida.
Those interested in this intensive public service opportunity must complete an application with the Board of Governors' Trustee Nominating Committee. Applicants do not need to live in Florida to serve. The term of service runs through Jan. 6, 2019.
"The Board of Governors is looking for dynamic and diverse individuals who are interested in higher education, passionate about assisting our institutions and committed to working toward the goals of the State University System," said Morteza "Mori" Hosseini of Daytona Beach, Chair of the Board of Governors' Trustee Nominating Committee.
More information can be found at http://www.flbog.edu (Click on the "Trustee Vacancies" button in the lower left of the page.)
Applications should be mailed to the Board of Governors and not to individual universities:

Facts about the State University System of Florida and Florida Board of Governors
The State University System of Florida is a constitutional body led by the 17-member Board of Governors. The System has 12 universities and a total enrollment of more than 330,000 students, making it the second-largest public university system in the nation (some states have more than one system). The Board was created in 2003 as a result of an amendment to the Florida Constitution (Article IX, Section 7). Responsibilities include defining the distinctive mission of each institution and ensuring the System’s coordination and operation. Members include 14 who are appointed by the Governor plus a faculty member, a student representative and the Florida Commissioner of Education. The Board appoints a Chancellor who serves as the State University System’s chief executive.
