STATEMENTS RELATED TO GOVERNOR’S ACTION ON SENATE BILL 1994 – FLORIDA POLYTECHNIC
From Board of Governors Chair Dean Colson:
“Higher education governance in Florida is a collaborative process. The Board of Governors is responsible for managing and overseeing state universities, and the legislative and executive branches have the power to establish new institutions. While the Board of Governors suggested one path leading to the creation of a new Polytech, an alternative path was chosen by our elected officials and we respect that decision. The Board takes its constitutional duties for oversight seriously and will work hard to ensure that the Polytech is a success.”
From Board of Governors Select Committee on USF Polytechnic Chair Mori Hosseini:
“Since establishing benchmarks for the Polytech’s independence, the Board of Governors has been working through its Select Committee on the USF Polytechnic to ensure a path forward. With the passage and signing of Senate Bill 1994, the Select Committee will now focus its efforts to ensure a smooth transition as the Polytech becomes the 12th university in July.”
The Board’s Select Committee on USF Polytechnic will meet on May 23 with representatives of the University of South Florida – the final agenda and meeting materials will be posted, as finalized, on links from the home page at www.flbog.edu. Current students, faculty and staff at the Polytech campus should anticipate that the summer semester will proceed as planned while the Board of Governors and USF administration prepare for the Polytech’s transition.
This will be the second meeting of the Board’s Select Committee. Actions taken at the first meeting in January are located here: http://www.flbog.org/pressroom/news.php?id=426.
The Nov. 9 vote and additional information can be found here: http://www.flbog.edu/pressroom/news.php?id=421.
