TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Board of Governors has fully reviewed and verified the comprehensive enrollment data sets across the State University System for Fall 2011, and the unduplicated student enrollment increased another 3 percent year over year – from 321,503 in Fall 2010 to 329,737 in Fall 2011. This is the same year-over-year percentage increase from Fall 2009 to Fall 2010.
“Even in tough economic times, it is critical that our public universities maintain and increase student access, while improving quality throughout the State University System,” said Board of Governors Chair Dean Colson of Miami. “We must keep the 11 institutions in the State University System of Florida competitive nationally and globally in a sustainable fashion for the best return on Florida’s investment.”
Colson referenced two products recently produced that are helping ensure that the State University System of Florida is one of the most accountable in the nation: the Board of Governors’ Strategic Plan 2012-2025, which includes 28 specific metric outcomes in a short document; and the 2010-11 Annual Accountability Report, which was transformed from two voluminous binders into a 27-page comparative document. For the first time in its history, the 2010-11 Annual Accountability Report on-line also has an interactive web-based tool that enables a user to create custom-designed dashboards by retrieving certain performance data. For more on the report and the Strategic Plan, see www.flbog.edu.
Three years of historical data for student enrollment, as well as average admissions scores for “first time in college” students, are below. FTIC is the term utilized in data sets because it covers high school students who may come into the System with college credits. The average SAT score of all FTICs increased one point in the ACT from the year before. SAT scores have increased 16 points during the past three years.

About the State University System of Florida: The State University System of Florida is governed by a 17-member Board of Governors, a constitutional body and led by appointed public servants. The System is comprised of 11 institutions with a total enrollment of more than 329,000 students, making it the second-largest public university system in the nation in terms of enrollment (some states have more than one university system). The Florida Constitution (Article IX, Section 7) was amended by the state's voters in 2002 to establish a statewide system of governance for all Florida public universities. As a result, the Florida Board of Governors was created in 2003 to oversee the State University System of Florida. Responsibilities include defining the distinctive mission of each institution and ensuring the well-planned coordination and operation of the System. The Board’s 17 members include 14 appointed by the Governor, with three serving by virtue of their designations (a faculty member, a Florida Student Association student representative, and the Florida Commissioner of Education). The Board of Governors appoints a Chancellor who serves as the chief executive and administrative officer of the State University System. For more, see www.flbog.edu.
