NEWS BRIEF/CALENDAR ADVANCER: 2011 Florida STEM summit in Tampa features State University System Chancellor Frank T. Brogan on Oct. 26
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEWS BRIEF / ADVANCER / CALENDAR LISTING
TAMPA, Fla.—The Career Technical Education Foundation is hosting its third annual “Florida STEM Summit” Oct. 25-26, including remarks from State University System of Florida Chancellor Frank T. Brogan on Oct. 26.
The summit focuses on “how education plays a vital role in industry success and what actions can be taken to improve the pathway toward achievement.”
Chancellor Brogan will speak to how the State University System has successfully facilitated and adapted to the evolving needs of a “New Florida” economy – particularly the Board of Governors’ ramped-up activity during the past three years. He also will address the challenges that exist amid an unending global race to stay competitive, particularly in research and development or “R&D.” While the State University System of Florida is third-highest in the nation among public university systems for 4-year degree STEM production, Chancellor Brogan says the New Florida Initiative speaks to Florida’s ongoing commitment to produce more STEM graduates – at all degree levels.
Numerous Florida STEM companies will be discussing at the summit how Florida’s higher education system – both public and private institutions – are adapting to meet workforce needs and how strategic initiatives can foster collaboration among the local business community and educational institutions.
To see the accomplishments of recent years and the emerging issues for the State University System in STEM, see the 2010 Annual Report at www.flbog.edu and the Board of Governors’ New Florida Initiative, which includes STEM research and market commercialization, at www.flbog.edu/new_florida.
(On Oct. 26, Chancellor Brogan speaks at 11:15 a.m., Museum of Science and Industry, 4801 E. Fowler Ave, Tampa, Florida, 33617. For more info: http://www.tbtf.org/news/74606/2011-Florida-Stem-Summit-III.htm).
