NEWS BRIEF: Board of Governors co-hosts, launches "Presidents' Perspectives"
NEWS BRIEF - July 27, 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOARD OF GOVERNORS CO-HOSTS, LAUNCHES “PRESIDENTS’ PERSPECTIVES”
State University System’s 11 University Presidents participate in taped sessions about current priorities, future goals
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—The Board of Governors has spotlighted the 11 University Presidents in the State University System for a series of taped segments as part of an ongoing effort to highlight the differentiated missions at each university, as well as each university’s increased accountability measures that will take Florida’s public university system toward 2020 and beyond.
Posted at www.flbog.edu/pressroom are eight of the 11 Presidents’ segments taped to date, for on-demand play. The remainder are scheduled to be taped and posted later this summer. Each University President’s segment also is airing statewide this summer on The Florida Channel and its partner public broadcasting stations statewide. Each President’s segment is approximately 30 minutes.
“This series of interviews with our University Presidents shines a bright light on specific ways they are leading their teams and strengthening not only each university but the State University System as a whole. The series highlights the breadth and depth of Florida’s public university system, particularly the wide array of community and economic engagement,” said Board of Governors spokeswoman Kelly Layman. “We are grateful to The Florida Channel for its partnership in bringing this exciting information to millions of students, faculty and stakeholders statewide.”
Posted at the same area on the web site are tapings by both Board Chair Ava L. Parker and Chancellor Frank T. Brogan, discussing topics with statewide media or by invitation of statewide groups and associations.

The State University System is comprised of 11 institutions with a total enrollment of more than 320,000 students, making it the fourth-largest public university system in the nation in terms of student enrollment (some states have more than one public university system). The Board of Governors is a constitutional governing body with specific obligations and responsibilities, including the well-planned coordination and operation of the System. The Board is comprised of 17 appointed members – 14 are appointed by the Governor while three are members by virtue of their designations, which are a faculty member, a Florida Student Association student representative and the Florida Commissioner of Education. The Board of Governors appoints a Chancellor, who serves as the chief executive and administrative officer of the State University System.
