Richard Stevens, Director, Academic and Student Affairs
Richard P. Stevens guides administration of academic and student affairs issues in the Office of the Chancellor. This includes managing the statewide approval process for new academic degrees and ensuring compliance with Board of Governors criteria and regulations. He also has responsibility for admissions, articulation, student services, distance education, instructional technology and library automation issues. Mr. Stevens serves as the Chancellor's primary liaison with the Southern Regional Education Board, Educational Technology Cooperative and Electronic Campus. He also coordinates with other state entities on issues related to workforce development.
A Florida native with family lines dating back to the mid 1700's, Mr. Stevens joined the Chancellor's staff in 1998. Previously, he worked as an environmental graphic designer with various state and private organizations, then with the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs state approving agency for veterans' training. Himself an Army veteran, Mr. Stevens served in Vietnam where he earned a Bronze Star for meritorious service while a member of Special Forces.
Mr. Stevens has a bachelor's degree in Art from the University of Florida, a master's degree of Fine Arts from Florida State University, and a master's degree in Public Administration from Florida State University.
