Dean Colson, of Coral Gables, has been a partner with the law firm of Colson Hicks Eidson in Miami since 1981. Colson is Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee of the Board of Governors. He is also a member of the following committees of the Board of Governors: Budget and Finance, Innovation and Online, Legislative Affairs, and Nomination and Governance. He served a two-year term as Chair of the Board of Governors beginning in January 2012 and a two-year term as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors beginning in January 2010. Colson was appointed to the Board of Governors in 2010. His seven-year term on the Board ends in 2017.
Colson served as a member of the University of Miami's Board of Trustees, a private university, from 1991 to 2009 and was its Chair from 2004 to 2007. He has served as a member and as Chair of the Florida Supreme Court's Judicial Nominating Committee from 2002 to 2006. He served as a special adviser on higher education issues to then-Governor Charlie Crist from 2007-10.
Colson received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University and his law degree from the University of Miami. He worked as a law clerk to Judge Peter T. Fay at the Federal Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, and to Justice William Rehnquist of the Supreme Court of the United States.
